This gathering, which drew together elders and youth, was sponsored by the American Indian Movement (AIM). Interestingly, Lisa Bellanger (Leech Lake), who designed this poster, became co-executive director of the national AIM in May of 2020, replacing AIM co-founder Clyde Bellecourt. The national organization is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the city where it was founded. Bellanger and her co-director Frank Paro (Chippewa) were appointed a few days before George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis police, and re-instated the patrols that AIM had used in 1968 to keep demonstrators safe.
