City Councilor Diane Gibson and APD Unveil New Golf Cart to Patrol Uptown Area

The golf cart will make it easier for police to patrol the Uptown shopping area.

City Councilor Diane Gibson and the Albuquerque Police Department unveiled their new golf cart to patrol the Uptown Shopping area. The cart will patrol the Uptown Area, including Uptown Shopping Center, Winrock Area, Coronado Mall, and other close by businesses to connect police to the community and businesses in the area.

“I’m happy to use my set-aside funding for this initiative,” said Councilor Gibson. “To add security, safety, and hopefully make the shopping experience less stressful for everyone, especially during the holiday shopping season.”

The APD golf cart will make it easier for officers to get around the busy area and show a police presence.

“Using the cart for the first-time last night, we arrested two individuals that had 5 felony and 4 misdemeanor warrants between them,” said APD Lt. Adam Anaya. “We received a call from a business that noticed these two individuals looking into and trying to open vehicles. After receiving their descriptions, we located them and approached them to find they had numerous warrants for their arrest.”

The golf cart cost $7,198.00 and was paid for by City Councilor Diane Gibson’s set-aside funds for public safety.
