The event will air live on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM on GOV TV – Comcast channel 16, YouTube: https://youtu.be/sA4mqaSChFo, and Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/OneABQMedia.

This is an online, social-media live streamed event that will simultaneously air on GOV TV, local government television channel for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County, that celebrates and uplifts the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment in which guarantees and protects the constitutional right for all women to vote in the United States.

This event will commemorate the women’s right to vote with an ABQ-based online broadcasted event that will highlight not only female-identified voters, NM government officials, local artists and other speakers across the state of New Mexico, but also span our country’s 50 States, Tribal Lands, and Territories. This is an all-inclusive event that recognizes that the struggle and women’s movement to fight for the right to vote was not always encompassing of Women of Color (WOC), but aims to correct and uphold the necessary core values that include the diverse heritages and cultures of all women-identified individuals of our varied histories and lived experiences.

Join us for an evening with speakers such as Congresswoman Deb Haaland (Pueblo of Laguna and Jemez), ABQ District 7 Councilwoman Diane Gibson, U.S. Representative for New Mexico's 2nd congressional district Xochitl Torres Small, Pamelya Herndon, CEO of the KWH Law Center for Social Justice and Change, and more. The event, hosted by Jessica Helen Lopez, City of Albuquerque Poet Laureate, Emeritus (2014-2016), also includes performances by local/state-wide spoken word artists, singers/musicians, DJs, live painters, dancers and vendors/entrepreneurs. We will additionally showcase messages from newly-minted 18 year-old female-identified voters from NM’s 33 counties, our 50 states/tribal lands/territories' voters, as well as stories of resilient votership representing our diverse historical and lived experiences of current female-identified voters.

Event sponsors include; AAUW-NM, AAUW Albuquerque Branch, The Rape Crisis Center of Central New Mexico, Santa Fe NOW, Santa Fe County, Gutiérrez-Hubbell House, League of Women Voters, Vote411, KWH Law Center for Social Justice and Change, McHard Firm – All Women Accounting Firm, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Albuquerque City Councilor Diane Gibson, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains Bernalillo County, Rio Grande Credit Union, U.S. Eagle Federal Credit Union, CU SAFE – Credit Union CUSO focused on helping Survivors of Domestic Violence, New Mexico Black Leadership Council, RepresentUS New Mexico, and Bernalillo Community Museum.
