Town Hall Meeting to Discuss Ground Water Issues

Description
A town hall meeting to discuss the ground water issues associated with oil and gas development in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County and the need for a city/county oil and gas ordinance.
Geologist Don Phillips (BS, MS) will give his “A Drinking Water Issue” presentation followed by a question and answer period. The presentation will discuss how fracking in the city and county would be a new development and a serious threat to the aquifer in the highly faulted rock of the Albuquerque Basin. Oil-bearing Mancos shale underlies much of the city and county.
Mr. Phillips worked for many years in the Texas oil and gas industry including work for Mobil Oil, Tenneco, Inc. and CNG Company. On March 15, 2018, he was appointed by the Sandoval County Commission to be the independent leader of the Aquifer Water Protection & Oil and Gas Citizen’s Working Group (CWG). The CWG is charged with writing the first Sandoval County oil and gas ordinance.
Sponsors: Albuquerque City Councilor Pat Davis and Bernalillo County Commissioner Maggie Hart Stebbins
