Description
Residents can turn over their guns during the event with no questions asked. Event organizers will pay residents $75 for handguns, shotguns and rifles and $100 for assault rifles. Residents will be required to transport unloaded weapons in the trunk of their vehicle. No ammunition in guns are allowed, and weapons must be operable.
APD is partnering with the Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers and the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office to hold the one-day event. Councilor Davis provided $30,000 from community enhancement set-aside funds which will be granted to Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers for the event. Guns collected during the event will be used for an art project addressing gun violence. It will be designed through a public process to be determined, in part, by the guns collected.
City Councilor Pat Davis is providing $30,000 from councilor-directed set-aside funds to support APD’s gun buy-back program in the International District.
