Community Gathers for 2019 Albuquerque Pride Candlelight Vigil

City Councilor Cynthia Borrego attended the vigil at Morningside Park

The annual Albuquerque Pride Candlelight Vigil took place on Thursday, June 7, 2019 at Morningside Park. This year's vigil was a reflection, remembrance, and celebration of living life and creating a future of unity and love.

City Councilor Cynthia Borrego was honored to join and support the Pride movement and our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer/questioning (LGBTIQ) community.

Morningside Park is an important part of the local LGBTIQ history. Morningside Park hosted the first Pride March in 1976. The City of Albuquerque has honored the movement and community by dedicating two metal art sculptures and presenting corresponding plaques. These sculptures and plaques are permanent to Morningside Park and have become the third place in the country to commemorate the LGBTIQ movement.
