The Art of the Santero Exhibit
The Historic First Methodist Church in downtown Albuquerque is exhibiting traditional Spanish Colonial art forms in the foyer galleries of the church. The show, The Art of the Santero, features 16 artists who are well known in their communities throughout Albuquerque, Santa Fe and northern New Mexico. In a church that has been known for its love and commitment to art and music for over 100 years when it was established when the railroad came to Albuquerque, this is the latest in a collaboration with local artists.
The exhibit lasts through May 15, 2019.
Many of the various artists will discuss or give workshops on their art forms. Retablos, bibellitos, weavings, straw art, silver filigree jewelry and tinwork are among the art forms highlighted. Over 16 artists are represented and all of the art is available for purchase.
