June 5, 2017 Newsletter from City Councilor Isaac Benton
Hello Neighbors,
The next City Council meeting is Monday, June 5 at 5:00 pm in the Vincent Griego Chambers, basement level of City Hall: Agenda.
Legislation of Interest
- FY2018 Operating Budget: The Mayor has vetoed the budget passed by Council at the May 15 meeting. We are working to find an acceptable compromise. Many of the achievements in the budget previously passed, such as additional funding for Albuquerque Heading Home, other social projects, and cultural projects are now threatened. I will do my best to restore that funding.
- Municipal Gasoline Tax Subject to Voter Approval O-17-32: I am expecting a final vote on my proposal to put a 2-cent per gallon gas tax before the voters for approval in the municipal election this October. The tax would provide funds for roadway rehabilitation, including sidewalks, bicycle facilities, and accessibility for persons with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The cost to the average driver would be approximately $27/year.
