Description

The National Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) are joining forces with the NM Behavioral Health Service Division (BHSD) to reach out to build awareness and educate high school and college/university students about the benefits and opportunities in the substance use and mental health disorder professions in the hope of increasing the number of college/university students choosing to enter the behavioral health field and specializing in these disciplines. Other partners include the New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU), New Mexico State University (NMSU), Western New Mexico University (WNMU), Eastern New Mexico University at Roswell (ENMUR), University of New Mexico (UNM), Behavioral Health Service Division of New Mexico, and the New Mexico Area Health Education Centers.

The New Mexico SAMHSA-NAADAC Workforce Forum will focus on the rewarding benefits of the substance use and mental health disorder disciplines that deliver not only a fulfilling life of helping others, but the opportunity for advancement and creativity.  In addition, students will learn about New Mexico's workforce needs, state certification and licensing requirements, national certification opportunities, networking and mentoring connections, and other professional development opportunities.  Finally, on-site students will visit with local substance use disorder treatment providers to learn more about employment and internship opportunities. The Forum will be livestreamed at partner satellite locations, and taped for future posting on NAADAC's website.
