The ABQ BioPark is looking for a friendly and outgoing Teen Facilitator to help run the summer teen Nature Guide Program. The Nature Guide Program gives teens the opportunity to develop communication and teaching skills, while also learning about topics in biology and ecology. Teen Nature Guides run on grounds educational activities for BioPark guests and also have the opportunity to assist BioPark staff behind the scenes and learn about various scientific careers.
*Please note that the majority of this position will be spent outdoors during the summer.

Requirements:

The minimum education and experience requirements are two years of major coursework in science, education, or a related field, plus 3-6 months teaching experience, formal or informal, preferably in the sciences. Related education and experience may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis. All applicants must pass a background check.

The individuals selected as the Teen Facilitators will:

  • Oversee the BioPark Nature Guides, teen volunteers (ages 14 -18) along with BioPark staff 
  • Develop and conduct Nature Guide training classes
  • Facilitate the daily teaching done by the Nature Guides
  • Keep Nature Guides engaged and challenged
  • Conduct on-the-job training for new Nature Guides
  • Develop and implement new Education Stations
  • Rotate work site weekly between the Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden
  • Communicate effectively with BioPark Education staff, volunteers and parent/guardians
  • Provide end-of-summer certificates and letters of appreciation for the closing ceremonies
  • Perform general administrative tasks associated with the BioPark Nature Guide Program

Facilitator Work schedule:

Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m; up to 40 hours per week. The Nature Guide Program runs from June 3 – August 3. Paid training and prep time are available starting May 7, with training dates for teen orientations on Saturdays in May.

Pay rate:

$16 per hour; hours per week varies with assignment.
