Job Opportunity at the ABQ BioPark: BioPark Administrative Specialist
The Administrative Specialist is a vital link between our visitors, volunteers and a successful education program. This person must possess excellent customer service skills, organizational skills and an interest in nature and conservation.
This position is staffed through a staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque.
General Tasks the Administrative Specialist performs include:
- Keeping financial and supply records
- Maintain inventories
- Obtaining cost estimates, preparing purchase orders and tracking budgets
- Maintaining classroom and education areas including management of calendar, A/V equipment, and room set up for Educational events
- Attend a variety of meetings, take and prepare minutes
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures
- Organize special events and recognitions for volunteers and school partners
- Registration for and general assistance with BioPark programs and classes, including being present to answer questions/provide information about BioPark Education and general BioPark operations
- The Administrative Specialist reports directly to the Education Curator, while also supporting the Education Coordinators and other roles in BioPark Education.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Applicant must possess excellent customer service skills in-person, over the phone and via email
- The Administrative Specialist must be organized and flexible, and have the ability to handle multiple ongoing projects simultaneously
- They must have the ability to perform responsible and complex administrative and clerical work
- They will be required to work independently, as a self-starter, as well as be part of a dynamic team
- Basic office skills are required, including computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Publisher) and Microsoft Outlook. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of commonly used functions in Word and Excel.
- Experience with volunteer databases, such as Volgistics, is a plus
- The Administrative Specialist must be physically able to move chairs, folding tables and boxes (up to 30lbs)
- Minimum education requirement is a high school diploma; a college degree is preferred
- Individual selected must pass a security background check.
Work schedule:
Generally, Monday-Friday, 8a.m.-5p.m., with one-hour lunch, occasional weekend or evenings as required by the programs or events; 40 hours in one week. When scheduled to work a Saturday, a weekday in the same weekly pay period will be taken off. Overtime is not an option.
Pay rate:
$15.96/hour. This position is hired through a staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque. Position is open until filled.
