Jerry Hunter, an ABQ RIDE Motor Coach Operator since October, 2013 has been named Albuquerque's Employee of the Week. Chief Administrative Office Rob Perry, on behalf of Mayor Richard J. Berry, honored Hunter on Friday, July 11, 2014 for his unmatched display of compassion to an Albuquerque citizen.
On Monday, May 5, 2014, Jerry was driving the Route #8 Menaul in bus #715 around 5:05 p.m. As he approached Juan Tabo from westbound Menaul, he spotted a woman in a wheelchair in the median. She appeared to be stuck in the deep gravel of the landscaped median. Jerry saw it necessary to stop the bus and to aid the woman in distress. He asked a man who was a passenger on the bus to help him free the woman. They went over and helped her out of the gravel and across the intersection. The woman explained that she was on her way to the store when she had tried to cross the street using the median and had gotten stuck.
The care shown by Jerry Hunter is admirable and his actions saved the day for one Albuquerque woman. According to CAO Perry, "Employees like Hunter help to make our community a great place to live."
Congratulations, Jerry Hunter!
