Councilor's Corner November 2015 Edition

Welcome to Fall!

The chill in the air is finally here and the colors changing in the trees are such a beautiful sight to see! When those leaves start to fall, don’t forget to get the rakes out to keep our neighborhoods we have in District 4 beautiful as well!

Balloon Fiesta was a Great Success

One of the biggest sources of pride in our district is our International Balloon Fiesta. This year’s Balloon Fiesta was a great success and the weather allowed for the balloons to launch for 9 straight mornings! The 2015 Fiesta saw 100,000 more attendees than last year’s events, with this year’s attendance being estimated at 955,703. There were more than 550 registered balloons, including 105 special shape balloons. And I know we all were happy to see the Penguin balloons found and inflated before the end of the Fiesta! Thank you to all the surrounding neighborhoods for always being such kind and patient hosts during this time.

Community Policing Council

I want to encourage all to attend your upcoming Community Policing Council Meeting in your area. They are very informative and a great way to help make a connection with APD in your neighborhood. You can find more information on the Northeast or Valley CPC here.

Project Updates

Thank you to all who came out to vote in the October election. I am happy to say that the GO Bond for $1 million for the design of the North Domingo Baca Pool was approved. The design for the pool should start next year. Design for Phase III of NDB, the Gym is beginning as well. Vigil & Associates Architectural Group was selected to design the gym and they are very excited about it. I will be attending some of the design meetings and can’t wait to see how it will turn out! Phase II of Vista Del Norte Park begins this December. Construction for the playground will work through the winter and it should be completed in time for spring. It will be a wonderful addition to the park and should be open just as it starts to warm up again and the kids are itching to get back outside from the winter!
