Councilor's Corner May 2015 Edition

A few words from Vice President Brad Winter.

April Showers Bring May Flowers!

Happy May folks! I am very grateful for the little bit of rain we have had thus far!
Did you know that district 4 boasts over 20 parks? We are finally seeing greener grass and new tree growth at each of them. Thanks for helping keep Albuquerque beautiful and for pitching in to pick up trash, and for notifying the City of vandalism. It takes a lot of effort from our Parks and Recreation staff to keep our parks clean and an extra hand is always helpful!

Sharing With Residents

We are happy to say that the inaugural edition of the bi-monthly Councilor’s Corner was a success! We received positive feedback from you all and I encourage you to include this one-page update in your neighborhood association mailer, pamphlet, or on-line webpage. The Councilor’s Corner is about sharing with the residents of District 4 the important work we are doing for you!

Looking For Things To Do This Summer?

District 4 prides itself on being a multigenerational community and there are many exciting events taking place in district 4 this summer!
On June 13th, 2015 the North Domingo Baca Park will be hosting the second annual Heights Summer Fest! This is an enjoyable and family-friendly event with live music by rock band, SmashMouth, vendors, food and fun!
If you are looking for educational activities this summer our Cherry Hills Library has many entertaining programs for youth and adults like baby and toddler story time, chess club and book discussion groups. For a complete listing of all of their programs, check out the Cherry Hills Library website.
The Department of Cultural Affair’s webpage called ABQtodo also has listings of city-wide events and attractions. Here you will find information about performing arts, interest articles from cultural venues and volunteers, events categorized by cost, target age group, type of performing art, type of sport and much more.

Projects Update

As you may know, each City Councilor is allocated $1million every two years to fund projects within our respective districts. We are using some of that funding for projects such as median landscaping. The medians on Wyoming from Paseo to Eagle Rock are almost complete! Here are some of our upcoming projects: Median landscaping on San Mateo from McCloud to Osuna, resurface tennis courts at Quintessence and Sister Cities Park, add an additional bocce ball court at North Domingo Baca Park and install a $400,000 play area at Vista Del Norte Park. Until next time!

Brad Winter
