ABQ RIDE H.R. Analyst Honored as the City of Albuquerque's Employee of the Week

Cindy Sisneros Lauded for Her Part in Helping to Hire Veterans

On Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, Mayor Richard J. Berry recognized Cindy Sisneros, a Human Resources Analyst at ABQ RIDE as the Employee of the Week for playing a key role in the hiring of numerous veterans at ABQ RIDE.

Sisneros is responsible for recruiting and hiring employees to work in the department, some of which include security officers, motor coach operators, and customer service representatives. In 2012, Mayor Berry’s Veteran’s Affairs Liaison, Roger Newell, created a veteran’s preference in the City’s hiring system. In support of this initiative, Sisneros began looking for eligible veterans to work in the Transit Department, as part of her normal recruitment. Her efforts to identify individuals who have served in the military requires that she collaborate with representatives in outside agencies, one being the New Mexico Workforce Connection (NMWC). NMWC is a state agency that participates in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Jobs for Veterans State Grants (JVSG) program. The program helps employers build their workforce capacity with job-seeking veterans, along with the provision of occupational services. Sisneros’s collaborative efforts with the agency have resulted in the hiring of more than 22 veterans at ABQ RIDE. According to the JVSG Program, she has been personally instrumental in recruiting and facilitating the hiring of more veterans than any other employer that participates in the NMWC program. She also helps NMWC representatives assist veterans with their résumés. She helps the agency’s staff to recognize that the work the veterans completed while in service translates into marketable skills they can list in their résumés. By going the extra mile, Sisneros notifies NMWC representatives when ABQ RIDE hires veterans, in order for them to report this data to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In turn, the state agency’s representatives recommend potential candidates to Sisneros to contact for submitting a job application.

Prior to Sisneros working with the City, she was a Job Developer for Goodwill Industries of New Mexico. During her tenure, she made great strides in the recruitment of veterans and by connecting them with job opportunities.

Sisneros began working for the Transit Department in May 2016. Since then, the New Mexico Workforce Connection credits Sisneros’s work as significant and worthy of recognition because of the direct contribution to Albuquerque’s veteran community. Congratulations!
