Tammy Jo Archuleta, better known as TJ to her friends, manages the Displaced Tenant Relocation Program in the Family and Community Services Department.
The closing of the Western Palisades Apartment by Albuquerque’s Safe City Strike Force presented unusual challenges. It involved the relocation of a greater number of families than the Displaced Tenant Relocation Program had ever dealt with. Recognizing the scale of this project, TJ spent New Year’s Eve at the site assisting in providing motel vouchers to the affected residents. Putting personal plans aside, TJ remained at the site coordinating the delivery of food boxes and making sure each family had a safe and warm place to go.
When the decision was made that the complex would be closed, TJ again went out to the complex and assisted in providing vouchers and other aid to the families that were being displaced. TJ worked directly with the families offering them comfort and a path to re-housing. One of the residents works near Western Palisades but was being relocated to a motel located miles away near I-25 and Candelaria. This resident does not own a vehicle, so TJ picked up a bus pass and delivered it to him so that he could continue his employment.
While working at the site, TJ found a family that had no way to move their belongings. So she coordinated with Catholic Charities to have a moving van come to assist this family in moving their possessions. Throughout that day, TJ worked one-on-one with the families, answering their questions, obtaining food boxes for families in need, and assisting them in obtaining available services.
For the extra TLC TJ gave to these families in distress, her peers nominated her as this week's Employee of the Week.
