Officer Dain Symes works for the Albuquerque Police Department.
In early March, a customer alerted staff at the Taylor Ranch Branch Library that an older gentleman had fallen to the ground next to a Jeep. When staff went out to see, they saw him with poor color and noticed he was incoherent and determined he had a heart attack in the library parking lot. Several citizens were around the vehicle and offered help and informational updates. It was good fortune that off-duty APD officer, Dain Symes, was there at the branch at the time and was on scene and making calls for an emergency squad immediately.
“Officer Symes was so generous and caring,” wrote the branch manager of the library in her nomination form. “We appreciated all of his help. He stayed until the ambulance took the man to Lovelace Westside Hospital. He contacted family members and secured the man’s property. He kept me up-to-date throughout the entire process. We can never thank him enough for all that he did. He is an asset to APD, and to the citizens and City of Albuquerque.”
