Michael Berry works at the Manzano Multigenerational Center for the Department of Senior Affairs.

This week’s employee of the week is Michael Berry, a city employee at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center. Berry has worked for the City since December of 2007 and is a General Service worker who goes far above his general duties everyday.

Berry has many responsibilities in his current position; however he recently volunteered to take upon one more without any extra compensation. At the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center they have a spray park which operates from June through August. This is the busiest time of the year. Berry took on an added responsibility of operating the spray park which with the operating hours, daily attendance, maintenance and upkeep, was a tremendous help to the entire staff.

If you ask Berry why he took on the extra responsibilities, he’ll tell you his reward is seeing the smiles on the faces of the kids.

Customers have taken notice of Berry’s strong work ethic as well. “I have had so many senior citizens approach me to comment on how much they enjoy Michael Berry’s courteous, pleasant, and caring attitude when working with senior citizens at the Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center.” said Paul A Bonnell, Center Manager.

Berry knows his customers by their first name, he tells them jokes to brighten their days, and even offers to help seniors carry in items from their car. Berry has even helped change flat tires for customers when they were stranded. Berry has attended special memorial services for senior citizens who have passed away and have publicly commented on how much they truly meant to him.
