Cheryl Mugleston, Week of May 24, 2010
Cheryl proves that City of Albuquerque employees have warm and big hearts. During the evening of June 22, 2009, while training on her bicycle on Paseo del Volcan in preparation for a triathlon, Heather Reu was struck and killed by a motorist. Heather and her children were very involved with the library’s story time hour. Library staff and the other parents who participated in story time were devastated by the loss and were in mourning.
Seeing how this tragedy affected the staff and parents around her, Cheryl took it upon herself to find a way for the library to accept donations. With the generous funds that poured in, Cheryl was able to buy a beautiful new book display with a plaque in memory of their friend Heather. Now, every time the story time parents come in, they have a place to honor the memory of Heather and smile thinking about the fun they had with her and the children she left behind.
