Read to Me! Book Drive Kicks-Off Today

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Read to Me! ABQ Network kicked off a citywide effort to collect thousands of new and gently-used children’s books for local families, hospitals, early childhood education centers, and events. Bilingual books are particularly helpful.

Between February 5th and March 29th, the book drive aims to collect and distribute 25,000 books for newborn through middle school kids.

“As someone who worked hard to learn to read because of dyslexia, I know that reading changes lives and opens up a world of possibilities,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “But there are kids in our city who don’t have access to books to unlock those doors. The City of Albuquerque is partnering with neighborhoods, churches, businesses and the public to start changing that with this book drive.”

It is easy to donate at one of the dozens of Read to Me! Book Drive collection sites. Books will be accepted at any Lowe’s Home Improvement, Barnes and Noble, John Brooks Supermarket, Applebee’s, La Montanita Natural Foods Coop, Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Library System, Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union, and Bookworks location.

Have a larger donation? We’ll even come to you. You can arrange pick-ups of book donations larger than a single bag.  Monetary donations are also accepted – 100% will be applied to book purchases.  To arrange pickup or make a contribution, contact Dave Orner, [email protected].
