Orangutan Awareness Celebration at the ABQ BioPark

Learn more about what you can do to help these critically endangered great apes.

Nov. 7, 2018 - Orangutans are quickly disappearing from the wild and could be extinct in the next 10 years, but you can help.

The ABQ BioPark Zoo is bringing consciousness to the orangutan's race for survival during its annual Orangutan Awareness Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Nov. 10 at the Zoo's orangutan habitat.

The event will include discovery stations featuring topics on conservation, action for orangutans, biofacts, history, interactive activities, and enrichment and craft making. There will be a special keeper chat at 11 a.m. and enrichment toss at noon.

The ABQ BioPark Zoo is home to five Sumatran orangutans, including Pixel, who turned 5 years old in April. Sumatran, Bornean and newly described Tapanuli orangutans are all critically endangered in the wild.
