Ground-breaking for Pickleball Courts at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center

Mayor Richard J. Berry, City Councilor Don Harris, City Councilor Diane Gibson, and other city leaders broke ground on the construction of pickleball courts at Manzano Mesa Multigenerational Center.

Pickleball is a paddle sport for all ages and skill levels that combine many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong. Pickleball is played on a badminton sized court with a slightly modified tennis net.

The project is planned to be completed in April and includes the following:

  • 18 pickleball courts (including all perimeter and internal fencing and gates, nets, posts, trash receptacles, and player benches with shade structures)
  • Concrete “alleys” at interior of court complex for player and spectator circulation and maintenance access.
  • Low rise bleachers, with shade canopies, between six feature courts.
  • Concrete entry plaza with picnic tables.
  • Perimeter sidewalk to the south and crusher fine path to the north of the complex.
  • Lighting of six feature courts.
