City Councilor Diane Gibson, Bernalillo County Commissioner Jim Collie, and State Representative Christine Trujillo joined neighbors to kick off the season with the opening of the “Mile Hi Farmers Market,” which is aimed at providing a space for neighbors to connect, as well as to promote the health and wellness of the community. The market is opening with procedures to meet current State and City Public Health Orders.

Procedures to ensure safety at the market include;

  • Limiting the number of people to 100 at a time
  • People must wear masks
  • People must keep the 6-foot distances between non-family members
  • There will be one entrance and one exit, located in the SW corner of the park
  • No live music

“I’m excited for the 6th season of The Mile Hi Market to begin,” said Councilor Gibson. “Especially during this time, it’s vital that we support our local economy. This market will provide that opportunity, as well as a chance to catch up with neighbors in a safe manner.”

The Mile Hi Farmers Market is a collaborative effort between three Neighborhood Associations: Mile Hi, Mark Twain, and Alvarado. The market features an eclectic mix of vendors, serving up fresh, locally sourced produce, as well as arts and crafts.

“Mile Hi Farmers Market is a successful demonstration of a local initiative leading to a regional benefit,” said Commissioner Collie. “In this case, farmers, consumers, and neighbor joined together in a project that benefits everyone in the community. Thank you to the market organizers.”

The Mile Hi Farmers Market also participates in the “SNAP Double Up Food Bucks” program, as well as other supplemental nutrition programs for seniors and WIC recipients. The Mile Hi Farmers Market will continue through the summer to September.
