Feasibility Study Could Bring Professional Soccer to Albuquerque

City Council President Dan Lewis will introduce a resolution, R-16-139, on Monday, December 5, 2016, that calls for a feasibility study to determine the best location in the downtown area for a 10,000-seat professional-level soccer stadium. The stadium would be used by the Albuquerque Sol Football Club, which is part of the Premiere Development League. The Club is seeking entry into the United Soccer League, a professional men’s soccer league with teams in the United States and Canada.

The feasibility study will determine the ideal location for a United Soccer Leagues-level soccer stadium and assess the economic impact of such a stadium. The popularity of soccer has increased in the Albuquerque area in recent years, and construction of a stadium for professional soccer will provide economic development opportunities for the City of Albuquerque.

The study will be undertaken by Kinship Consulting, LLC, using Parks & Recreation Department funding.
