City Councilor Cynthia Borrego Joins the Albuquerque Bee City Celebration

Albuquerque has been an official Bee City since 2016

On Saturday, June 16th, City Councilor Cynthia Borrego was honored to join the Burque Bee City Pollination Celebration at the Open Space Visitor Center. She offered her congratulations to the Albuquerque community for becoming the first Bee City, USA in the Southwest.

In August 2016, the Albuquerque City Council adopted R-16-77 to officially become a Bee City. Bee City USA is a pollinator-friendly designation intended to improve local conditions for necessary beneficial insects. It fosters ongoing dialogue in urban areas to raise awareness of the role pollinators play in sustaining three-fourths of the world’s plant species and their crucial role in our food system.

Bee Cities are committed to educating the public and advocating for pollinators at all levels to ensure policies and practices that benefit pollinators.  Honeybees and native bees are especially important as the workhorses of our food system. Without bees, we cannot ensure a healthy food system for the future.
