Councilor's Corner - March 2016 Edition
Happy March and soon-to-be Spring!
Elected Chair of ABC Community Schools Board
I have recently been elected as the new Chair for ABC Community Schools Board. ABC is a Albuquerque and Bernalillo County joint board dedicated to serving students and families in the area. I am very excited about the opportunity and look forward to great things this year, including a National Forum for Community Schools we are hosting here in April!
ABC-Z Comprehensive Plan
The City Planning Department is working on updating the Comprehensive Zoning for Albuquerque and they want your feedback before March 11. To read the draft and give your input, visit abc-zone.com. This is a very important process and the Planners truly value your input. I hope you take the time to look at it.
The Department of Municipal Development (DMD) and I are teaming up to take a look at the busy intersection of Wyoming & Palomas. I have funded a traffic study to be able to have traffic engineers get data and help come up with some solutions to alleviate some of the congestion. DMD has also begun construction on Osuna to widen each side to three lanes and improve the sidewalks and is expected to last until September.
The plans for a new fountain at North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center are in full swing. I purchased the fountains and they are being prepped by the great people at Stone Forest in Santa Fe. While they are working on them, our construction crew has started the process to get the fountain basin ready. If you have been by the Center or go by soon, you will see that the old basin has been taken out already. They are putting a new one in and you should see the final work in 6-8 weeks. I want to say thank you to Judie Pelegrino from NDB Neighborhood Association and Michael Gonzales from West La Cueva for helping so much with this project!
Community Policing Council
Please consider attending an upcoming Community Policing Council Meeting in your area. My office was able to attend the February Valley Area CPC and there was a great presentation and informative discussion. They are a great way to help make a connection with APD in your neighborhood. You can find more information on the Northeast or Valley CPC here.
Until next time!
Yours in Service,
Proudly serving District 4, Albuquerque's Northeast Heights since 1999
