City Councilor Ken Sanchez Hosts First Community Meeting with Dr. James R. Ginger
City Councilor Ken Sanchez hosted the first community meeting to introduce Dr. James R. Ginger, the court-appointed independent monitor who is overseeing APD’s reform process and the monitoring team on June 25, 2015.
U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez, Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden, Stephanie Lopez, President of the Albuquerque Police Officers’ Association and City Attorney Jessica Hernandez were also in attendance.
Dr. Ginger is a nationally recognized expert on police reform and organizational change.
He and his team are responsible for:
• Independently assessing the full implementation of the court-approved Settlement Agreement;
• Reporting on the status of compliance to the court, the parties and the community;
• Assisting the parties in resolving compliance challenges that may emerge; and,
• Providing technical guidance as needed to the APD.
About 50 residents attended the meeting and had an opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with Dr. Ginger and his team. According to the DOJ, Dr. Ginger and his team will be hosting meetings throughout the city.
