The City of Albuquerque is always looking for qualified volunteers.

The application process and necessary qualifications to be a volunteer are unique to each individual program.

Volunteer Programs

Animal Welfare

There's more than one way to help out animals in need with Animal Welfare. Donations are accepted year-round, pet fostering is always encouraged, and volunteers are welcome at any of the Albuquerque shelters. Volunteers should keep the following qualifications in mind when considering Animal Welfare:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Volunteers must attend a City volunteer orientation presentation.
  • Certain volunteer positions require additional training.

Ambassadors at the Albuquerque International Sunport benefit from several incentives, including restaurant discounts and free parking. The Sunport Ambassador Program requires the following of volunteers:

  • Commitment to one 4-hour shift once a week, same day and time each week.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service while remaining on feet for full shift.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

In addition, potential ambassadors must fill out applications and submit to background checks.

    Help keep Albuquerque beautiful with the Solid Waste Management department.

    Parks and Recreation

    Take part year-round in helping beautify City parks or help out with current projects. Or find out how to adopt a park.

    Open Space

    Become a volunteer at the Open Space Visitor Center or become the "eyes and ears" of Albuquerque's Open Space trails.

    Fill out an interest form or contact Open Space. Other ways to become involved include the Adopt-an-Open Space program, Shooting Range volunteering, and annual events volunteering.
