Guidelines for Publicly Financed Candidates

Guideline information for 2019 City of Albuquerque elected office seekers.

Exploratory Period

Applicants may test the waters before filing for candidacy.

  • City Council Candidates: March 15 to April 30, 2019

Qualifying Period

Spending Limit

  • District 2: $43,174
  • District 4: $39,119
  • District 6: $31,979
  • District 8: $42,404

Qualifying Contributions

  • City Council Candidates: May 1 to May 31, 2019

Applicant Candidates must receive Qualifying Contributions from 1 percent of the registered voters in the district the candidate wishes to represent. The number of Qualifying Contributions required for the 2019 council races will be posted here on April 15th, 2019:

  • District 8: 

Districts 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are not elected in the 2019 Municipal Election.

Petition Signatures

In addition to qualifying for public financing, Applicant Candidates must also gather petition signatures pursuant to the City Charter and Ordinances.

  • Candidates for City Council must gather more than 500 signatures from registered voters within the district the candidate wishes to represent from May 1 to June 28, 2019.

Election Day

The 2019 Municipal Election will be held on November 5, 2019.
