Keep Albuquerque Beautiful, a program of the City of Albuquerque’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), and Locker # 505: Students Clothing Bank are teaming up to sponsor the 10th Annual Recyclothes event on March 19 at Hinkle Family Fun Center. Recyclothes is a clothing drive designed to help meet the needs of thousands of Albuquerque-area children who go without necessities.

“We know the need is great and we’re thankful to everyone who comes to donate. With your help we were able to collect a record 10,220 pounds of clothing and accessories for students last year and we want to surpass that this year,” said SWMD Director Matthew Whelan. “So please get a head start on your spring cleaning and bring us your bags of clothes or even just a few extra shirts you no longer need and we’ll take care of the rest.”

All donations will be delivered to Locker # 505, which partners with Albuquerque Public Schools to make sure students in need have clothes, shoes, undergarments, and coats so they can focus on learning. Since mid-August, Locker # 505 has served nearly 1,500 students.

“The community’s support is what allows Locker # 505 to serve the students in need of Bernalillo County, we could not do it without them,” said Locker # 505’s Executive Director Kim Kerschen. “We only wish everyone could see the smiles of appreciation and joy we get to see when the students leave Locker # 505 with their bags of clothing, school supplies, and hygiene items.”

Please bring your gently used clothing for K-12 students to Hinkle Family Fun Center located at 12901 Indian School NE from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the NW corner of the parking lot on March 19. There will be a chance to win some fun prizes as well as free donuts for those who donate, while supplies last.
