If it’s Broke, Come Fix It

Learn to repair your household items to keep them out of the landfill.

July 19, 2022

Join Keep Albuquerque Beautiful in coordination with the City’s Solid Waste Management Department on August 13 for a Fixit Clinic at Fuse Makerspace from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The “pop-up” event is free and all ages are welcome to learn how to assess, disassemble, troubleshoot, and, if possible, repair small household items.

We are searching for coaches and participants to join us for this event. An ideal coach is someone who enjoys tinkering, sewing, or generally just fixing things. Participants need to bring a broken item that they would like to try to fix while a coach helps walk them through the process. In the past, participants have brought sewing machines, clothes, blenders, clocks, radios, laptops, and other household appliances.

When registering, participants can pick a time slot during the event that works best for them. Coaches and participants are welcome to bring their own tools, but will also have access to those available at Fuse Makerspace. In addition to small household appliances and clothing or fabric repair, Parks and Recreation’s Esperanza Bike Clinic will be on site to help with bicycle repairs.

If interested, please register by August 1, 2022 at 5 p.m. This deadline will allow us to pair up participants and coaches based on the items expected at the event and a coach’s skills. However, we will also allow walk-ins and late registrations.
