Papel Picado

Workshop: Making Papel Picado

These events are cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances

Presented by Christine Vasquez, OSVC Manager

Papel picado is a decorative art created by cutting designs into sheets of tissue paper. The art of cut paper has been created by many cultures around the world and is considered a folk art in Mexico. Designs can be cut from as little as 1 sheet or as many as 40-50 colored tissue papers stacked together and using a guide or template, a small mallet, and chisels, creating as many banners at a time. Three techniques will be highlighted and you will be able to create your own to take home or decorate the community ofrenda at the Center.

Come and learn about this art form and create your own expression of Mexican Folk art!
No experience necessary, all materials will be provided.

Space is limited so please call (505) 768-4950 to register
