National Trails Day update

An update from the American Hiking Society regarding an online National Trails Day during COVID-19 outbreak

For 27 years, National Trails Day® has brought people together to promote and protect America’s magnificent trails system, and although we won’t be gathering in person this year, we will still unite to protect and promote trails and access to quality green spaces.

American Hiking Society knows the COVID-19 quarantine continues to impact individuals and organizations all across the country. The quarantine has put into sharp focus how time spent outside is helpful for mental and physical health, yet the quarantine exacerbates existing impacts, threats, and limited resources for trails and natural spaces.

The health and safety of National Trails Day® hosts, volunteers, and participants is our top priority. Due to the CDC’s guidance regarding event gatherings and parks and recreational facilities and preventing the continued spread of the pandemic COVID-19, American Hiking Society will shift from promoting in-person events to a digital activation for National Trails Day® on June 6, 2020.
