Description

If you have never been rock climbing outdoors, this class is for you! Outdoor Recreation and Open Space have teamed up to give adults a taste of rock climbing! We will meet at The route 66 open space area and hike in to our climbing area. All necessary equipment (helmet, harness, ropes, anchoring materials, belay/rappel devices, gloves) will be provided, single pitch top rope climbs and one rappel will be set up by staff. Participants must be able to walk a mile up and down hills carrying some gear. There is no weight limit, however, you may need to supply your own harness if your waist size is larger than 45”. Participants will learn basic climbing knots, climbing and rappelling commands, and belaying. Class size is limited to six to ensure that you get individualized attention.

At the intersection of Central Ave and Tramway Blvd, head east on Central for .7 miles. The Open Space gated entrance will be on the right side of the road.

Program is free, but registration is required at play.cabq.gov (Open Space → Public Programs → Adult Programs → Intro to the Outdoors: Classes and Workshops)
