So that's that's the story. 01:28:21.529 --> 01:28:24.799 Let's turn now to the essential point why we're all gathered here today. 01:28:24.966 --> 01:28:26.200 Okay. 01:28:26.200 --> 01:28:28.936 So people mistakenly believe 01:28:28.936 --> 01:28:31.939 that these Americans are not your citizens. 01:28:32.273 --> 01:28:34.442 That is incorrect. 01:28:34.442 --> 01:28:37.412 They're citizens of their sovereign tribal nations. 01:28:38.346 --> 01:28:40.982 They're citizens of the United States, 01:28:40.982 --> 01:28:43.951 and they're citizens and the states in which they reside. 01:28:44.552 --> 01:28:45.987 Okay. 01:28:45.987 --> 01:28:49.624 And I say this because this is reported to the public, 01:28:49.624 --> 01:28:52.493 many like you have in the back, but a lot of people don't. 01:28:52.493 --> 01:28:55.697 And that's why I say, and you also continue to say 01:28:55.697 --> 01:28:58.700 that and repeat that and educate people on that. 01:28:58.766 --> 01:29:02.770 But, you know, it wasn't until 1924 when Congress, U.S. 01:29:02.770 --> 01:29:07.275 Congress passed the Indian Citizens Citizenship Act, and that was the act 01:29:07.275 --> 01:29:10.111 that branches and legislatures and chips all Native Americans. 01:29:10.111 --> 01:29:11.713 It wasn't until 1924. 01:29:13.681 --> 01:29:16.017 And here's the 01:29:16.017 --> 01:29:17.518 and then it wasn't until that, 01:29:17.518 --> 01:29:21.122 you know, even though we had citizenship, a lot of states didn't allow fully. 01:29:21.122 --> 01:29:22.690 And you Mexican was one of them. 01:29:22.690 --> 01:29:25.693 It made a lot of barriers in place and the Americans could not vote. 01:29:25.860 --> 01:29:29.897 And it wasn't until 1948, New Mexico's Supreme Court decided Inter Hill, 01:29:29.897 --> 01:29:33.568 which is early, that Native Americans decide where they live. 01:29:33.634 --> 01:29:36.437 We have our reservations. They can still vote. 01:29:36.437 --> 01:29:40.241 And I think that decision was pushed forward because 1914 01:29:40.241 --> 01:29:43.244 and during World War two, many Native American men 01:29:43.411 --> 01:29:46.114 and children of young boys 01:29:46.114 --> 01:29:49.550 fought gallantly and died in the World War Two on behalf of the United States. 01:29:49.951 --> 01:29:51.519 So finally, that was the story. 01:29:51.519 --> 01:29:54.522 But again, it wasn't until 62 01:29:54.522 --> 01:29:57.458 that you really got a lot of those rights 01:29:58.760 --> 01:30:01.763 formalized for Native Americans. 01:30:01.829 --> 01:30:03.931 And so you are a U.S. 01:30:03.931 --> 01:30:07.068 citizen and you have rights under the U.S. 01:30:07.068 --> 01:30:08.669 Constitution. 01:30:08.669 --> 01:30:11.506 And as you know, there are 27 amendments to the U.S. 01:30:11.506 --> 01:30:15.276 Constitution, and the first ten amendments are known as the Bill of rights. 01:30:15.276 --> 01:30:18.279 And they were ratified way back in 1791. 01:30:18.946 --> 01:30:21.482 And I'm going to just focus on the first five amendments. 01:30:21.482 --> 01:30:22.683 Okay.
