Patriot Flag Flown By AFD

The Albuquerque Fire Department set up two aerial ladders to hang the 30X58 ft Patriot Flag on Tuesday, November 2nd at the Fire Academy located at 11500 Sunset Gardens SW. The flag will be flown by one of our aerial ladders from 9:30am-12:30pm on the Drill Field just south of the Academy.

The flag started its year long journey in San Diego on September 10, 2010 and is being shipped weekly for an entire year to be flown by different Fire and Police Departments across the country to honor the heroes that lost their lives on 9/11/01. The grassroot effort began with an idea from Mitch Mendler, a California Firefighter/Paramedic and American Legion Veteran.

"We are proud to be a part of this event to honor the fallen heroes that paid the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful morning. The emergency responders woke up that morning, kissed their kids and spouses goodbye and went to work like any other day not knowing what awaited them. We will never forget the sacrifice they made for our country in the service of their fellow man." AFD Chief James Breen.
