Cruzin’ Into the School Year Supply Drive Helps 1300 Families Prepare for School

3rd Annual Back to School event distributes supplies, haircut vouchers, books and clothing

Albuquerque, NM – The Department of Family and Community Services hosted its popular back to school event, “Cruzin’ Into the School Year” this past Saturday, August 8, 2020. The event is designed to help families receive school supplies, resources, and prepare for school.

“Our families are hurting—juggling health fears with job loss and instability. So this event took on an extra significance this year as we helped kids from all walks of life prepare for a new school year,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “When children don’t have to worry about school supplies, they can focus their energy and efforts on learning.”

City staff distributed backpacks filled with various school supplies to approximately 1,300 children. In addition to the supplies and backpacks, the City gave out 500 vouchers for a free haircut, 900 books, 900 vouchers for clothing, masks, snacks, resources, and more.
