Summer Activities at the Zoo

Enjoy a variety of special experiences from pedal boats to special animal feedings and shows.

May 22, 2019 - Summer is about to heat up at the Zoo with special activities coming into full swing.

Visitors of all ages can jump aboard the Endangered Species Carousel for $2 per ride. It operates from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily, weather permitting and each ride directly supports the ABQ BioPark conservation program.

Pedal boat rides are now available at the Zoo on weekends and will be operating daily starting May 25. Rides are $8 for approximately 15 minutes. The pedal boats seat two to four people. Learn more here.

Visitors can also engage in up-close animal interaction through exclusive giraffe and lorikeet feedings. Both opportunities are available Wednesdays through Sundays starting May 29; lorikeet feedings are 10-11:30 a.m. and 2-3 p.m. and giraffe feedings are held 12-1:30 p.m. The cost is $2 per activity.

The carousel, pedal boats, and lorikeet and giraffe feedings are operated by the New Mexico BioPark Society and proceeds directly benefit the BioPark.

These special opportunities are in addition to some free feeding demonstrations also available to zoogoers:
  • The Animal Encounters Show takes place in the Nature Theater and features mammals, birds and reptiles. The interactive show will take place this weekend at t 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and will begin its summer schedule of Wednesdays-Sundays after Memorial Day.
  • Hippo feedings occur daily at 2 p.m. at the hippopotamus exhibit.
