ABQ BioPark Welcomes New Komodo Dragon

Young female dragon is acclimating to her new home.
March 26, 2019 - The ABQ BioPark  welcomed a new Komodo dragon recently.

Indah, a 5-year-old female dragon, arrived in Albuquerque from the Phoenix Zoo on February 20. Indah means "beautiful" in Indonesian.

Visitors can see her at her exhibit in the reptile building.

"We are very happy to welcome our new Komodo dragon, Indah," said Senior Zookeeper Josh Davis. "She is a little shy right now, but she is starting to come out of her shell."

Davis said Indah enjoys exploring her habitat and swimming in her new pool.

Indah is about 16 pounds. Females Komodo dragons can grow to around 7 feet long and can top 150 pounds.

"She is young so it is exciting to have the opportunity to watch her develop and grow in the years to come," Davis said.
