Resources for Small Businesses

The City of Albuquerque has a lot of great resources for owners of small businesses, both through the Department of Economic Development and the City’s own Purchasing Department.

Economic Development

Check out all the resources available to you on the Department of Economic Development website. Here you’ll find links for upcoming business leadership events, information for business owners, and a link to Innovation Central, a new program that encourages entrepreneurship and ideas.

Clicking on the Business Owners link will lead you to information on:

How to start a business, including registering a new business
How to get involved in international trade
Services and programs offered by the City, including how to acquire bond funding; resources to help with recruitment, retention and expansion; and help with workforce training
A list of other resources and ideas for business owners
Advice on finding loans and investors
A list of city-sponsored business incentives and how to apply for them

In City Council and the Department of Economic Development, we are working hard to make Albuquerque a great place to do business.

Purchasing Department

The City of Albuquerque purchases a lot of goods and services, and our Purchasing Department gives a preference to local businesses. The best way to become a vendor and begin selling your company’s services to the City is to start at the Purchasing Department website.

Here you’ll find information on:

How to become a vendor
• A vendor handbook that explains the entire process for selling, billing and payment
• A current list of solicitations for goods or services, including Requests for Quotes (RFQs), Requests for Bids (RFBs), and Request for Proposals (RFPs)

The Solicitations page also has a link to an online vendor registration form. Once your business is registered you will receive email notices of all RFQs, RFBs and RFPs.
