Job Opportunity at the ABQ BioPark; Butterfly Pavilion Keeper
The successful candidate will enjoy the delicate hands-on work of rearing butterflies and releasing them into the Butterfly Pavilion while educating guests about their life history and ecological importance.
The ABQ BioPark consists of the Zoo, Aquarium and Botanic Garden and Tingley Beach. The Butterfly Pavilion is located at the Botanic Garden.
This position is employed through Tryfacta staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque, and is located at the ABQ BioPark. This full-time position will start in early May and end in mid-October.
The Butterfly Pavilion Keeper’s duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing the Butterfly Pavilion in the morning for guests and closing up at the end of day
- Receiving and preparing butterfly pupae for emergence
- Releasing butterflies
- Rearing caterpillars of various species
- Keeping meticulous notes and records
- Interacting with and educating guests
- Covering floor shifts in the Bugarium (including guest interactions)
- Other miscellaneous tasks
A Successful Butterfly Pavilion Keeper will:
- Possess knowledge and/or interest in biology, especially entomology
- Be able to carefully follow protocols with attention to detail
- Have the ability to perform delicate hand work
- Have excellent customer service and communication and skills
- Be comfortable speaking with BioPark guests
- Have patience
Qualifications
Applicants must be 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED, and be comfortable working outside during hot days.
Candidates must pass a security background check to be hired.
Work schedule:
Full-time Seasonal; 40 hours/week with weekend work required. Weekends will be Mon-Tue, Tue-Wed, Wed-Thu, or Thu Fri.
Pay rate:
$12.48 per hour. This position is employed through Tryfacta staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque.
