Jul 17, 2022
01:00 PM - 02:00 PM

Albuquerque Museum
2000 Mountain Road NW
Albuquerque, NM 87104

Miguel Gandert’s photographs of Matachine dancers span the entire state of New Mexico and show the ritual performed in both Hispano and Pueblo communities. Members of the community volunteer to perform as characters in the dance. Malinche is a central character in the dance and is often identified by an all-white dress similar to a first holy communion dress. Gandert identifies as Indo-Hispano and has spent his career photographing communities in New Mexico.

The talk is included with paid general admission.
