Description
150 years ago, the county sheriff's office was the foundation of law enforcement within the New Mexico territory. During this time, an onset of lawlessness encroached upon New Mexico. Large counties, fee systems, and a lack of resources contributed to the breakdown of law and order during this period.
Don Bullis is an author and has worked as a newspaper editor/columnist and a peace officer. He retired in 2002 after serving as a New Mexico deputy sheriff, town marshal, organized crime commissioner, and criminal intelligence operational supervisor.
