Mosquito Control Program

  • The Urban Biology Division operates a mosquito control program in order to minimize public health risk associated with mosquito-borne disease such as West Nile virus, and to promote enjoyment of recreational areas and outdoor activities.
  • Principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) are applied to the mosquito control program in order to minimize the use of pesticides and risks of pesticide resistance in mosquitoes. In addition, IPM reduces the amount of chemicals in the environment.
  • Other Departments of the City of Albuquerque, as well as other government entities also operate pesticide programs. Pesticides may be used in parks and golf courses or along medians and other rights-of-way. Information presented here is specific to the mosquito control program.
  • The mosquito control program is operated as a collaboration between the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. Residents in both the City and the County can request mosquito control by calling 311.
