Albuquerque's Modern Streetcar

Since the introduction of Rapid Ride in December 2004, ABQ RIDE has increased its monthly passenger boardings by more than 100,000 people per month along the Central Avenue corridor. Rapid Ride has changed the face of public transportation in Albuquerque. Soon there will be a new mode of transportation along this same route. In just a few years, modern streetcars could be sharing the roadway with travelers. The project will be done in phases. The first phase will likely stretch from Old Town to Nob Hill with future service extending from the West Mesa to the Northeast Heights.
