Change at Air Force Base Begins Monday, July 7, 2014
The route of the #98-Wyoming Commuter will be changing on Monday, July 7, 2014. That’s because Kirtland Air Force Base has announced that starting that day, the Carlisle Gate will only be open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Kirtland says it is shifting security to other parts of the base, once the high-traffic, morning hours are concluded at the Carlisle Gate. Inbound and outbound traffic through that gate will now only be permitted during those morning hours. The Carlisle Gate will remain closed during all other hours and weekends.
ABQ RIDE’s #98-Wyoming Commuter currently provides two trips in the morning from the Northwest Transit Center near Cottonwood Mall, across the Rio Grande on Alameda and south on Wyoming onto the base via the Wyoming gate. It traverses the base before ending near the Carlisle Gate. Two trips provide return service from the base to the Northwest Transit Center in the evening.
Since the current route ends at the Carlisle Gate in the morning and begins there in the evening, the route will have to change due to the new gate hours. The new, permanent route for the #98-Wyoming Commuter will end instead at the Truman Gate in the mornings and start there in the evenings, so the route will be:
Mornings – (from current routing on westbound Randolph SE):
- Exit Truman Gate at the end of the route
Evenings- (from the start of the route):
- Enter Truman Gate at the start of the route
Resume Regular Route.
“Although only the evening runs of Route #98 are affected by the gate closing, we decided to standardize both afternoon and evening routes to avoid any confusion about the route,” said Bruce Rizzieri, Director of ABQ RIDE.
