City of Albuquerque Continues the 2009 Clean Air Challenge
Pat Hurley Park received Thirty-Eight Brand New Trees
ALBUQUERQUE- Mayor Martin J. Chávez and ABQ RIDE Director Greg Payne are pleased to announce that more than thirty-eight 10 foot tall trees were planted at Pat Hurley Park on September 19, 2009 in recognition of the 2009 Clean Air Challenge. The 2009 Clean Air Challenge encourages residents to use alternative forms of transportation to improve air quality in New Mexico. The ceremony was held at 9:30 am at the Upper Pat Hurley Park- 400 Yucca NW. Food, beverages and entertainment were provided.
The 2009 Clean Air Challenge was such a success. The City of Albuquerque held a Tree Dedication Ceremony in honor of our sponsors and their efforts towards a more sustainable future. More than forty businesses demonstrated their support of alternative transportation including this year’s spotlight sponsors-- Comcast and the Albuquerque Journal. ABQ RIDE welcomed all to participate in this community event to not only beautify our city but to continue the message of clean air for all.
“It’s such a privilege to be the Mayor of a City so rich with natural beauty and history,”
Said Mayor Chávez. “I am proud that so many of our residents are respectful and protective of our environment.”
This tree planting ceremony was made possible by a joint effort between ABQ RIDE, Tree New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Department to improve and protect our environment for future generations.
“The success of the 2009 Clean Air Challenge is proof that Albuquerqueans want a greener, more sustainable city that improves the quality of life for all,” said Director Payne. “I’m proud that ABQ RIDE uses alternative-fuels and energy-efficient buses so we can ensure a greener environment every time passengers get on the bus.”
