New ABQ RIDE Buses are Here

New Buses Coming to Albuquerque's Streets

New Fleet is Quieter, Environmentally Friendly

Mayor Martin Chávez and ABQ RIDE Director Greg Payne are pleased to announce the arrival of 58 new fuel-efficient, hybrid buses to replace the aging fleet of diesel buses.

"This is exciting news for Albuquerque," said Mayor Chávez. "These low-floor buses meet all ADA requirements, meaning they have ramps and lifts for wheelchairs. They are quiet and comfortable for our passengers, fuel efficient and healthy for the environment since they are hybrid diesel-electric."

As of March 15, 2008, ABQ RIDE has a fleet of 149 buses that are 100 percent wheelchair accessible and 100% alternative fuel.

"ABQ RIDE is really becoming a 21st century transit system," said ABQ RIDE Director Greg Payne. The new buses will be 40 feet long with room for three bicycles on the front of the bus.

This is the largest bus purchase in the City of Albuquerque’s history.
