Description
The 3rd Annual Great Bus Race is on again!
Like last year’s race, contestants will be required to use only ABQ RIDE buses or walking as their only forms of transportation. And like last year, racing teams will be required to have a Smartphone or mobile device capable of scanning QR codes and will encounter different tasks at different venues along the way. But unlike last year, contestants will also have the use of ABQ RIDE’s Smartphone App and TXT2RIDE service to help them find their buses.
24 teams of two people each will run the race on May 11. Five alternate teams have also been chosen to run the race in case some of the first 24 teams don’t show up. They are also required to have a Smartphone or mobile device with QR code scanning capability
Racers will be assigned to one of two separate legs of the race. They will make their way via ABQ RIDE to a variety of businesses and city venues by following clues which may only be accessed by scanning QR codes using a Smartphone. Points will be awarded for arriving at each venue, performing tasks and answering questions. The first team with the most points and the fastest time to arrive at the finish line wins the title of “The Great Bus Race Champion.”
The first three teams that collect the most points with QR codes and get to the finish line the quickest will receive a variety of prizes. First prize is an iPad 3 for each of the two team members. Second prize is an iPod Touch for each of the two team members. Third place prizes are gift certificates to such establishments as the Cooperage Restaurant and Monte Carlo Steakhouse in Albuquerque.
The winners will be announced between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the Alvarado Transportation Center at First and Central.
