Join ABQ RIDE for its first ever Poetry Slam, entitled The Artistry of Words, on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at the Northwest Transit Center, 10401 Ellison NW (at Coors Bypass).

Headlining the Poetry Slam is Albuquerque’s first-ever Poet Laureate, Hakim Bellamy (yes, Albuquerque actually has its own Poet Laureate, named by Mayor Richard J. Berry in April, 2012). Also joining Bellamy in reciting poetry will be students from nearby Cibola High School. That group will include the school’s Poetry Club, which goes by the moniker Blank Scrypt, along with students from Cibola’s English classes.

Bellamy is set to perform with a DJ. He is a national and regional Poetry Slam Champion, and holds three consecutive collegiate poetry slam titles at the University of New Mexico. His poetry has been published in Albuquerque inner-city buses and numerous anthologies.
